When To Toss Your Makeup and Sanitation

Hey my little cubs, how is everyone doing!

So even though this question has been asked and answered more times than I can count, and anyone can simply Google it and it pops up everywhere, I still get asked this question quite often from both my clients, and family/friends alike.

Does makeup have an expiration date?
When should I toss my makeup?
When does makeup go bad?
How can I tell if it’s bad?
How can I keep my makeup clean and make it last longer?

Okay so I’m going to answer these question as best as I can, and I’m going to keep this really straightforward and simple, and hopefully I’m clear on it because sanitation is very imported when dealing with almost anything, especially with something that’s going to be on your face, eyes and lips, and if anything is unclear or I may have forgotten something, comment below and let me know.

Remember it’s best to be safe than sorry

Question: What’s the oldest makeup product you own?

Okay let’s get stared;

Q: Does Makeup Have an expiration Date?  A: Yes!

·        Most Liquid and Cream Foundations – 1 to 2 Years
·        Powders – 18 Months to 2 Years
·        Concealers -  1 to 2 Years
·        Mascara – 3 to 6 Months
·        Lipsticks and Lip Glosses – 12 to 18 Months
·        Lip and Eye Pencils – 12 to 18 Months
·        Eyeshadows – 2 Years
·        Cream/Powder Blushes -2 Years

Okay now these “times” applies to most of these items, most of the time, but every once in awhile it won't so to be on the safe side it’s always best to look for the this little guy here
he’s going to tell you how long you’re going to be able to use this product safety and when to toss it. He's mostly going to on the product itself or on the box/bag it comes in.

Q: When should I toss my makeup, When does makeup go bad, how can I tell if my makeup has gone bad? A: Easy… Look, Smell, Touch & Swatch

·        If  the color doesn’t look the as when you bought it
·        If there is anything growing on it. don’t try and save it, it’s trash
·        It smells funny, and that how it’s supposed to
·        If the texture change
·        You tested it against your skin, and the color and feel isn’t the same from when you bought it

Q: How can I keep my makeup clean and make it last longer? A: Sanitation is key

·        Go through your makeup, take out anything’s that’s missing it’s lad/cap/top or in a broken package/container
·        Check each item, toss away anything that’s bad
·        Transfer/move products into new containers/bottle/ palettes (Check out Michaels, AC Moore, Jo Anns or Hobby Lobby, they have great storage for even better prices)
·        Eye and Lip Pencils without tops, sharpen then place into zip-lock bags, with like items
·        Spray/Wipe your makeup with 90% percent rubbing alcohol, or makeup Sanitation Spray/Wipes (it’ll keep your makeup cleaner longer)
·        Don’t share makeup
·        Work off a palette/CD/DVD or the back of your hand, scoop product onto it, and work off that, clean after each use
·        For powder products, take cotton round and wipe the product with it, it’s going to pick up product, then of the cotton round.
